OSF Program Manager Erin Cooper to DoD

Department of Defense, Turning Policy into Practice, WPS,

Our Secure Future is proud to announce that Program Manager Erin Cooper has been selected to serve as a Women, Peace and Security Policy Analyst for the U.S. Department of Defense. Erin will be seconded from One Earth Future Foundation and serve in the Office in the International Humanitarian Policy (IHP) Directorate in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Stability and Humanitarian Affairs (SHA).

"I am extremely excited to serve in the Department of Defense’s Women, Peace and Security community of practice. There is such a broad range of actors and dedicated practitioners working to strengthen WPS within DoD. I look forward to building relationships within the Department and civil society groups to foster ongoing communication and consultation. I hope to contribute a civil society perspective to DoD’s policies and procedures to make a positive impact in U.S. policy and continue moving the WPS agenda forward."

- Erin Cooper, OSF Program Manager

Her role will be to help codify WPS at the department to ensure compliance with the WPS Act and standardize processes and procedures across the commands and services. This involves working collaboratively with a range of DoD actors from the Joint Staff, Gender Advisors at relevant combatant commands, the Office of the General Counsel, and others. She will also continue to engage with and represent DoD with civil society organizations that work on WPS, including academia, the U.S. Civil Society Working Group for WPS, and other advocacy groups.

"We are so proud of Erin for taking on this important role at the Department of Defense. This appointment is a sign of the great trust and excellent reputation the Our Secure Future team has built in Washington, DC--even amidst the pandemic of 2020. OSF has always been results oriented, with an aim to scale our vision for peace at the highest levels of government. We are confident that Erin’s contribution to the DoD on matters of peace and security will have a great impact for a long time to come."
